In this class we used a picture that was cut in half and we had to pick which side we had to do and i picked the right side so then i stuck the left on the paper and the other we coloured it in pencil and then drew from the outside and then we used paint and we mixed colors to make colors.
In this class we had to explain someone we know but in colors and then people walk around and write what they think about it.
I made this because it shows who i am but not directly by not directly meaning and every color means something
The Edge: Landscape - Unit 2
In this lesson i sat down and saw what was in front of me and i drew what i saw.Its a bit ruff but that shows the different shades.
This is the same place but this time i didn't use charcoal i used a pencil and when i look at it i feel like it shows more then when i used charcoal.
What we did today is
This lesson we took some pictures in Al Bustan and we took some landscape pictures and it was to inspire and give us ideas for the work in class.
This was in our IA trip we went to Wahaba sands and we took some pictures at the top of the mountains to give us idea of textures and how it looks like .
This lesson I made a made a practice peace so then i can plan where and what i should put.
This lesson i started making my landscape painting and I this is what i put in my practice painting and i added some different tones of colours but i still need to change the shape of the clouds and the colours and change the colour of the mountains.
This is my final peace and as you can see i changed the colour of the mountain because it didnt stand out and it didnt look like the real image. The colour of the sky didnt look real and it still needs a bit of small touches to make it look real like the image and make it stand out.
J.M.W Turner
Intro/Artist:This image painted by A.M.W Turner inspired me because it had a lot of colours that make the painting stand out and it looks like a mountain and a sand dune put in one which is really incredible.J.M.W Turner was a British painter and he produced over 500 paintings and 2,000 watercolours and 30,000 drawings. He was born in 1775 and died in 1851.HE loved to paint storms, rough seas and flames also he like to use whats around.I chose A.M.W Turner because his art work inspired me by the shapes and tones and the colours he used and i tried to do what he did which is mix colours and have smooth mountains.
Visual:When i saw this at first I was impressed because it was something different and it looked like there was a mountain between 2 citys also the colours really cought my eyes and they were used. The first word that came to my head was (wow and amazing)I know those are two words because one word cant explain the painting.I first noticed the mountains and the colours used. There are some parts that drew my attention more than others which are the colours that were used for the mountain and I thought the blue part in the mountain i saw another city which was amazing how he did that.
Emotional:It makes me feel amazed and i feel like i want to go to that place just to see that view and I feel like its a relaxing image because it looks like a calm and quit place and they way he painted it he makes it look so amazing even though in real life it could not look like that.
Memory/Experience:It reminds me of a place i went but im not sure where it was but i remember a place that looks just like it but not how he painted it and i think now it has more buildings.
Background:Joseph Mallord\turner was born in Covent garden London.Turner spent some of his time with his relatives due to his mothers mental illness. When he got to the age 14 he started to study at the Royal Academy Schools.Later he built a gallery at his house in Harley Street to show some of his painting. He traveled a lot in Britain then at the age 27 he went on his first trip abroad visiting Switzerland,Savoy and Paris.

Task 1 - Presentation
How do the arts transcend actual or perceived boundaries?
Rene Magritte: The Empire of Light 1950
In this painting I noticed that Rene Magritte shows contrast of day and night and he used dark colours for night and light colours for day. Having day and night shown in the painting creates a paradox.
Magritte was a Surrealist painter.
Surrealism was:-
noun a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images. ( google dictionary)

The boundary between night and day have been transcended. If this actually happened it would be scary!
In what ways can art distort space and time?
David Hockney:May Blossom on the Roman Road-2009
The shape of the leaves and trees are distorted and the shadow and the choice of colours used.

How do artists create alternative perspectives?
Frida Kahol: Self portrait with thorn Necklace and hummingbird-1940
different ways looking at the picture give you a different perspective for example she looks mad but she also looks like she loves nature and animals.A bird is often symbolize freedom and life. Especially hummingbird which is colorful and always hovering above flowers. But in this painting the humming bird is black and lifeless. This might be a symbol of Frida herself.

To what extent do the arts blend the past, present or future?
Ian Hornak:
This painting shows the past and the present together because everything thats around the women and the women her self is painted in a present way but she is knitting an old deign of a blanket. Representational paintings are distortions of time as they 'freeze' moments in time. The painting looks like a real photo but it is a lie that makes the people think its real but its just a painting that has a realistic feature. https://news.artnet.com/exhibitions/did-eric-sproutz-give-forgeries-to-the-smithsonian-421919 |
How do artists convey a sense of space and time?
Jenny Saville
Although the scene looks old there were a few computers before 20 years and that helps us by telling us that its not to old and that the painting was done fairly recently.

What role have the arts played in turning points in history?
The colour gray the image makes the picture look depressing and its a picture of war which symbolizes death. Yevgeny Khaldei manipulated his photo of Soviet soldiers raising the red flag over the Reichstag (1945) to hide the soldiers’ looting .
The photographer has distorted the image to tell a particular story. It is not completely true.

Rene Magritte: Empire of Light
1950
This image gave me an idea for my own piece. Magritte has mixed day and night.IT is recognisable but creates a world with different rules. He has made an impossible image/idea.

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas; Size: 50 x 72";
Year: 1978.

Hornak has mixed modern and old objects in it. We surround ourselves with things some old and some new. Also the image 'freezes' her in the act of making something with cloth. This is also a distortion of time . Hornak has cleverly composed his painting so we see the woman first because of her white blouse. He is controlling the space of the painting.

Task 3-Process and Product
I think that Realistic drawing,Constructive drawing and Drawing from memory and imagination helped me create my art peace
PROPOSAL
draft statement of intent: I am going to distort/abstract space and time in my art work by using some of the surrealist ideas seen in the work of Rene Magritte. I want the viewers of my work to think it is something they have never seen before, something impossible.

Rene Magritte because his work is made up by something that is impossible and not true.
I have also made an image of an impossible event - the sun and the moon being joined together.Ian Hornak because his work is mixed with now and past designs which really amazed me. In my work having the sun and the moon joined also distorts time because they are usually not occupying the same space and time. The knowledge that I developed is that art isn’t always about making the image look ‘real’. Whilst I made the surface of both the sun and the moon detailed and realistic I showed them in a way that never actually happen.
I also learnt that in art anything is possible. My art work has different meaning and it depends who looks at it and how and in my opinion it represents the world and it also shows that people have 2 sides also its just a idea that came to mind that turned out to have a lot of meaning. The colours dont have a meaning they are just the real colours of the sun and the moon.I used a pencil for the moon because it was the right colour for it and i just crayons for the sun to make it look real. That there is 2 sides of people meaning that everyone has a good side and a bad side and nobody's perfect. One day the world would be separated into two parts .There are many more meaning to this art piece but it depends on how and who looks at it.My research showed me that you can do anything you want in art and creak what is impossible. From my artwork by looking at it,it can have a different meaning. Its part of space and time because its day time and night time merged together. Its a human resource. Its abstract and it blends space and time. Its a blend of time because its a mixture of the sun and the moon together.
